Warning:

Read instruction manual for floor polisher before use

Wear insulated gears during wet floor polishing

Step 2 - Honing

For marble floors in a good <g>condition</g> a polishing can be enough to bring back the shine.

Step 4 - Buffing

In this step marble is polished with the finer grit 3000 or Buff. At times, Crystallization of Marble is done for finishing. Crystallization of marble is a chemical reaction and has a long-term impact on Stone durability. This method will bring back a mirror like shine by chemical reaction on the surface of marble.

Step 5 - Sealing Marble

This step is essential for either old marble floor restoration or new marble polishing. Apply good quality marble sealer at least once every year.

The following steps are recommended for marble floor restoration and polishing:

Marble floor polishing needs diamond floor polishing pads and polishing equipment. Marble restoration equipment and diamond floor polishing pads <g>needs</g> to be used <g>carefully .</g> In many <g>ways</g> this is similar to concrete polishing. There are various kinds of floor polishing pads that are made of resin or metal. When this method is used marble is gently restored back to a smooth shiny slip resistant finish. Use diamond floor polishing pad for the stone to bring back <g>the its</g> original luster.

General Maintenance of Marble Floor

Some of the cleaning solutions can crystallize and damage its natural soft stone bond. A professional or little knowledge on marble cleaner bring its natural shine. A right cleaning product and polishing technique do not destroy these minerals. If you clean marble without proper cleaner and equipment you will destroy the finish. General cleaners eat through Marble minerals and the shine fades away. It will cost money to reverse the damage by fixing it yourself or with the help of professionals.

Marble floor needs proper maintenance and care. As Marble floors are expensive, it needs the proper maintenance to protect your investment. Neglected or abused marble floor can get permanent damage. On extensive damage, It is important to take the recommendations from marble polishing professionals.

No matter how cautious we are accidents will happen that will stain the marble. There are some simple steps that can be done to help clean the stains before they are set into the marble.

Sugar Based Stains:

Stone Countertop Surfaces

There are various choices for stones. Granite is a common choice for a surface due to its physical properties. Granite is made out of quartz and microcline crystals. In Granite, these crystals are packed in proximity. This structure makes it one of the hardest among various natural stones used in home and office interiors. The other choices for countertops surfaces are Marble, Quartz, and Quartzite. Granite tiles are as well popular, as it costs less in comparison to granite slabs.

Granite Countertop Fabrication

The structure and hardness of granite makes fabrication, restoration and granite drilling tedious. To make a holes in granite, one needs to have a superior quality of abrasive tools. To install faucet, soap dispenser on countertop, holes are needed. The tools need to be strong, sharp and durable to complete drilling without damaging itself. It also needs to cut the hole with precision and without damaging the stone surface.

Dry Coring of Tile Granite Stone

In dry coring, the hole is created without the use of water during the drilling process. In the wet coring process, the water is used during hole creation process. It keeps the temperature of the stone surface and the tool down and acts as a plasticizer. Although it takes more time to create the hole with wet coring, it is a preferred choice. One also has to clean up the watery slurry mess created during the process. It is used commonly for drilling a hole into granite, tile, stone, concrete surface.

5) Start drilling at low speed by placing the tip of the bit right on the center of the mark. For dry coring use vacuum to minimize dust.

 6) Keep drilling at low speed till the finish. For wet coring, pour water in the hole and then continue with cutting the hole.

Drilling a Hole in Tile

Drilling a hole in tile for stone is similar to drilling into a granite slab. As tiles are comparatively lighter, it is very important to clamp it securely. Else it may slide and can damage the tiles during drilling process. Generally tiles are thinner. They also have less strength, they need proper support from below while drilling process. Care also needs to be taken while installing the faucets in faucet holes. The coring needs to be done at low speed and gently to avoid cracks during drilling of tiles.

Drilling a Hole in Other Stones Concrete

Drilling into other stones such as Marble, Quartz, Quartzite and concrete is similar to drilling into Granite. Most of the other stones are softer than Granite, it is recommended to drill at low speed, and as needed increase the speed of variable speed wet polisher to avoid cracks in softer stones.

To begin with, put the granite slab on the work table and clamp it securely. This will ensure that it doesn’t slide off during the grinding process. Movement of the slab during grinding can lead to uneven grinding of granite edges or lead to hazards.

After this, put on the gloves, safety glasses, aprons and respirator to avoid inhaling granite dust and to avoid it getting in your eyes, body parts or clothes.

Proceed to connect the bullnose profile wheel to the low speed grinder and polisher. Once it is connected properly, start the grinder and polisher and keep the speed low.

When you run the variable speed wet polisher grinder with the diamond profile wheel along the edges of the granite slab, be careful and make sure that you hold it it flat and don’t turn it in an angle. Doing the latter can cut off more than it is required from either the top or the bottom layer of the granite slab and will not give you the desired bullnose profile shape.

With a steady hand, keep moving the grinder forward and backward as it grinds the edge. If you keep it at only one place of the slab constantly, the diamond profile wheel will cut deeper than required. Continue this till you get a perfect bullnose profile on your granite slab.

In the final stages, be extra cautious, keep moving the wheel forward and backwards and give the slab a perfect finishing touch. When you are done with the same, clean the slab with a damp cloth. You can also opt to use diamond polishing pads to polish it and afterwards seal it.
This way, you can easily have a bullnose profile on
granite slab, which can be used as a countertop or find other applications.

Steps For Marble Edge Polishing

The marble honing polishing steps involves usage of several grit sizes of diamond
marble polishing pads with a wet stone polisher grinder. The
results are highly noticeable when the correct process is executed.

Place the marble slab on a work table / stand; make
sure that it doesn’t move while working. It is not necessary but is a good idea
to mask places near to the marble stone that can be harmed by water, masking
tape is an excellent item to use in this purpose.

Carefully look on the marble slab edges. A profiled or
saw cur edge may have some sharp and heavy scratches. Smaller grit sizes (50,
100, 200) are perfect to remove the heavy scratches and higher grit sizes
(1500, 3000) are suitable to achieve shiny finishing.

Attach the backing pads to wet polisher, ensure it is
switched off before attaching it. Now you can begin the polishing process, open
the
	diamond marble polishing kit and
start with grit 50 polishing pad. Attach 50 grits to the velcro of backing pad slowly
open water flow for wet polisher. Start polisher at low rpm and start polishing
the marble edge with side-to-side motion, not more than four or five times. With
lower grits, too many iteration can grind more than needed without adding any
value to polishing finish.

After repeating the process with other small sizes
grits, you can find a better smooth surface that are free from all saw marks, old
sealant or wax. Use the grinder initially as low speed and as needed increase its
speed slowly for faster polishing suitable for specific stone.

Ensure every single part of surface is polished with
the grit before moving to higher grit. Any unpolished area with lower grit will
result in sub optimal shine. A good way to ensure every single part of edge is
polished is to wipe the edge surface with gently squeezed wet cleaning towel, and
polish dry. The heat will evaporate the water where it is already polished.
Ensure entire water evaporates then perform one more round of wet polishing. Move
to the very next higher grit once the entire surface is polished.

Continue and repeat the processes with diamond marble polishing kit from lower
grits to higher grit until you get your desired finish. Make sure that you have
used grits from lower to higher, apply gradually all the grits 50, 100, 200,
400, 800, 1500 and 3000 grits. Don’t use more than the double grits from the
first
	diamond marble polishing pads.
Maintain the regularity to using the polishing pads.

Use one by one pad until the polish starts to shine accurately.
Then, vacuum the area as needed to remove any debris. You would find good shine
at grit 800, and as you progress to grit 1500 and 3000 it will start getting
mirror like finish.

Using Sealer on Marble

	Marble is a
porous stone, and it is very important to seal its pores with a marble sealer,
it creates a protective layer and closes all exposed pores on marble surface. It
keeps fluids from infiltrating the marble stone piece. Make sure that you have
purchased the sealer that is specifically manufactured for marble. The sealers
are available at any home improvement shops and online stores.

	Apply sealer
using a container or sprayer to make sure the stone is covered consistently. Wait
to soak into the marble stone for about 30 minutes. When you notice that the
sealer is dried perfectly, use some more on the outer area. Delay almost two
hours and then use the sealer again to achieve the highest outcome from this
process of
how to polish marble. Always use two
layers of sealer on the marble slabs for the best result.

Safety Tips

Make sure that you have using the safety glass

Use protective mask to be safe from dust

Use protective gloves

Read all warning for wet polisher and follow all
recommended cautions and warnings.

Safety Tips

Always wear a safety glass

Use mask to avoid dust

Always use hand gloves

Use a hearing protection ear plug or similar and use that when polishing

Steps to Polish Granite Marble Edges

You should have a complete collection of marble granite polishing pads including 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 grits. You need to use them one by one to attain the excellent finishing.

Now attach the Velcro backing pads holder with the grinder rotating clockwise and hand-tighten it so that it is not loose when working.

Now you need clamps and a piece of wood to hold the marble or granite slab tiles in place and to prevent it from moving while polishing.

Place the tile accurately, keep the wood piece on top of stone and tighten the wood’s position on the tile so that the tile can’t move where you are polishing. A clamp directly on stone would scratch the stone, for that reason a wood piece is used. A loosely clamped stone would create a slip and would potentially result in black mark on stone.

Make sure that the tile is safely secured with wood over it, (You surely never want to see scratches on the tile).

Now, you are completely ready to start polishing. Attach the 50 grit polishing pad to the Velcro holder. Make sure that you are using the grinder with below 2500 RPM.

Begin polishing now, move the grinder from left to right. Remove all saw marks and scratches carefully. Position the grinder in slight angle and gradually polish the granite edges or <strong">marble slab edges from one side to another. Be careful at bottom edge to remove objects, do it slowly.</strong">

Now remove 50 grit and attach the 100 grit pad, continue the same process like before. 100 grit pads are used to remove all remaining saw marks.

Now use 200 grit pads to remove very slight scratches. Continue like above two steps; polish the edges from one side to another, left to right.

Now attach 400 grit with Velcro backed holder and continue the same process. It is the first step to achieve shiny polishing on the marble slab.

Attach 800 grit polishing pad and polish the edges from left to right. For many softer stones and concrete, you may find the shiny stone at this stage. For very hard stones, continue this step some times more.

Sometimes, you can complete final finishing with the 1500 grit. Continue the previous method to polish the edges and do it until you notice the eye-catching shiny polishing.

Remove the 1500 grit and attach 3000 grit diamond polishing pad. Polish from left to right, continue the process and stop when you are satisfied with the polishing.

Finally, you know the process <strong">how to polish granite edges and you have now shiny polished tiles ready to install immediately.</strong">

There are multiple factors to consider to choose the right polishing pads:

Stone Or Concrete

Polishing Needed on Edges Or Flat Surface

Square footage to polish

Onsite or Offsite Polishing

The above determines whether you need a wet polishing pads or dry polishing pads, and if you go with 3 inch, 4 inch, 5 inch or even bigger size pads. A thicker or thinner, rigid or flexible pads meet your need best or cheaper or costlier pads is best for your use case.

Wet Or Dry Polishing Pad?

Wet polishing is preferred over dry polishing technique for its better finish and lower cost of finish. Many project may not be suitable for wet polishing for the fact, it creates water based slurry which can squirt during polishing. A polishing in a open hotel lobby may need usage of dry polishing instead. Analyze you work area if
wet diamond polishing pads is suitable, and accordingly determine the right polishing technique for your specific project.

3 Inch, 4 Inch, 5 Inch, 6 Inch or 7 Inch Pads

To choose the correct diamond polishing pad, you need to give due importance to the
size. A smaller size polishing pads are easy to work with and can access intricate places and lighter to perform fine finishing. However a smaller size polisher less area per rotation. For example, a typical 3 inch pad area coverage per rotation is 7 square inch approximately 1/4 of a 6 inch pads. That means a
6 inch diamond polishing pads polisher approximately four times faster at same RPM. So, you have a bigger area that is open, you must choose a bigger size pads. A 4 inch or 5 inch diamond polishing pad could be very good choice for most of the projects. A larger sized diamond polishing pad is considered to be more stable on flat
areas. However when you are
considering small and narrow spaces, you should ideally go in for a small
polishing pad.

Flexible or Rigid Pads

Most of the countertop needed edges, to polish edges round shapes (Sink roundabouts), a flexible polishing pads is preferred over rigid, where as a rigid one works equally good on flat surfaces as a flexible ones. If you need to polish both, a flexible pad is always preferred. Where as either of them is perfect for polishing only flat surfaces. Flexible polishing pads are available in thinner as well as thicker polishing pads, a pad thickness typically varies from 1.2 mm to 5 MM. While thick pads are considered to be long lasting, they can become
stiff at times.

Typically a polishing pads with higher diamond concentration and better quality diamond is costlier and could be better investment over polishing pads with fewer and low quality diamonds. You can read online reviews for polishing pads before determining the right polishing pads in your budget.

Patterns Needed

You will find that some patterns are suited for cutting while others are suited for polishing the surfaces. If you find patterns with coarse gullies on the surfaces, you will know that it is used to remove the deep layers. They are pretty aggressive in nature. How to Polish Stone/Granite/Concrete/Glass Using STADEA Diamond Hand Polishing Pads:

	1) Always wear protection for eyes, hands etc before start of hand polishing. Wear safety glass, water proof gloves and apron before starting polishing steps.
2) Secure/fasten the stone to be polished to ensure it does not slide while polishing.
3) Spray thin film of water on stone, and start polishing with grit 50 in circular clock wise direction. Verify the entire polished stone surface has same level of smoothness before moving to next grit. Squeeze water and look at 30-45 degree angle on the surface to ensure same degree of smoothness. Generally up to grit 400, one can see scratches and above grit 400 grit surface is be scratch free (Not visible with naked eyes). If surface is not at same level of smoothness, continue with polishing with same grit, and focus on the area that still has uneven scratches (till grit 400) or uneven smoothness (Grit 800 on wards).
4) Repeat step 3, for each higher grit one by one starting with grit 50, then 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3000. Don’t skip any grit in between, else it will not achieve the best polishing result. Most of the stone will show shine starting grit 800 and will keep improving. If one still sees scratches beyond grit 800 and 1500, it is a sign that step 3 is not followed correctly in lower grits.
5) After grit 3000, spray very thin layer of water on stone surface, and use buff to polish. Keep polishing beyond entire water evaporates, and stone becomes hot. The effect of buff comes when temperature of stone goes high during buffing. Don’t buff for too long time. Use Buffing as the last step.
